Painting Daily in Maleny

Born in Brisbane, Gary received early training from the late David Fowler. His background in cartography, illustration and graphics is evident in his bold use of colour and composition.
Extensive travels across Australia have fuelled five decades of work centred on the landscape he knows intimately. From the red earth of the outback to coastal ranges and hinterland vistas, these journeys inform every painting — whether the location is real or imagined.
Now based in Maleny — where his family dates back four generations — Gary paints daily in his gallery, often with visitors watching the work take shape. The gallery is a working studio as much as a exhibition space, with new pieces appearing on the walls regularly as earlier works find their homes.
Making a living as a full-time artist is rare. Gary has done it for nearly 50 years.
